Hello, Choir Families!
Please find below the text of a flier that will come home by kid mail by Thursday - it has more details about the coming weekend's events with the Bel Canto Singers, as well as a heads up about the spaghetti dinner this Thursday and the field trip to Seattle Central next Wednesday. We apologize for any difficulty you experience getting to and from this weekend's events, as well as any confusion you may have experienced regarding tickets - this is the first time the choir has sung with this group, and it's all new. To any new families who might be feeling a little overwhelmed - although circumstances have given us a busy introduction to the choir year (!), rest assured that performances are usually much more spaced out. Because this is an open blog page, I have removed Mrs Cavitt's phone number from the information below - please note that she asks you to contact her with any questions, and if you have mislaid her number you will receive it again by email and/or kid mail shortly.
Current Choir Events
A busy week is upon us as the choir has its first performances for the year – some (the spaghetti dinner, Seattle Central) have become familiar events, while others (Bel Canto) are new and exciting. Your student should have brought home a bright yellow sheet from school last week with some details – more details below. We regret that there is no school bus transport for the weekend’s events with Bel Canto, and apologize for any inconvenience – Daniels Recital Hall is a beautiful place, however, and it will be a wonderful experience for the children to sing there. Don’t forget to keep on singing at home!
Performance of “Lo Yissa Goy” with the Bel Canto Singers this Weekend!
Venue
Both the rehearsal and the concert this weekend will take place in the Daniels Recital Hall, on the corner of 5th Avenue and Columbia St downtown (the historic building that was formerly the First United Methodist Church). Paid parking is available in this area, and many city buses stop nearby. You will need to make your own way to these events.
Rehearsal - Saturday
The choir will have a dress rehearsal with the Bel Canto singers at 12 noon on Saturday 15th October, which will last for approximately 1 hour. Because this is the only opportunity for the two choirs to rehearse together it is important that your student attend.
Performance – Sunday
Sunday’s concert starts at 2pm – choir members should arrive at 1pm dressed in school uniform (solid white top and navy bottom). If you have trouble finding uniform items, please contact Mrs Cavitt. The concert will end around 3:30pm.
Tickets
We apologize for any confusion regarding tickets! Bel Canto gave us a limited number of printed tickets, which have been distributed. If your student came home with 1 or 2 tickets on Monday, please plan to use them. All choir members will receive free entry for themselves and for one accompanying adult – please announce at the door that you are a Leschi choir family if you have not received your 2 tickets. Unfortunately additional free tickets are not available – tickets are available for purchase online through Brown Paper Tickets (http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/189825) or at the door. Children under 12 are free, adults are $15, and seniors and teens are $12.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs Cavitt.
Don’t forget! The choir will be singing at the 5th Grade Camp spaghetti dinner in the lunchroom on Thursday evening (October 13th). Please be there at 6pm – choir members eat free!
Mark your calendar – the choir will perform at Seattle Central Community College’s annual scholarship awards ceremony on Wednesday October 19th. Mrs Cavitt will be sending home a permission slip for this field trip at the beginning of next week – please be sure to get it back to her the next day. You can expect your child to leave Leschi on the bus at 3pm and return there on the bus to be collected by you at 6pm. A snack will be provided at the event. If you would like to attend this trip as a chaperone, please contact Mrs Cavitt.
